Licensing
Some Test Services tests require a license; others run without one. This page lists which tests need a license, how a license is acquired and held, and how licenses are installed. Licenses are managed through the same licensing subsystem as OpenLab CDS. For the broader picture, see About licensing.
Which tests require a license
Logging in, viewing previous results, and accessing existing reports never require a license. The OpenLab Software Installation Verification Test (SVT), System Report, and Connectivity Test also run without a license. The remaining tests each require a specific license feature.
Table: License requirement by test
| Test | License required | License feature |
|---|---|---|
| OpenLab Software Installation Verification Test (SVT) | None | Not applicable |
| System Report | None | Not applicable |
| OpenLab CDS Connectivity Test | None | Not applicable |
| OpenLab Security Test | Yes | QlaSecurity |
| OpenLab Storage System Test | Yes | QlaSecurity |
| OpenLab CDS Workflow Test | Yes | QlaCDSWorkflow |
A single QlaSecurity license covers both the OpenLab Security Test and the OpenLab Storage System Test on a machine. Each machine that runs a licensed test requires one license for the relevant feature.
How licenses are acquired
A license is acquired the first time a licensed test runs on a machine, when the user starts the test. A License Acquired message appears next to the test name. Once acquired, a license remains held by the machine; it is not returned to the pool when the test finishes.
Table: License acquisition behavior
| Aspect | Behavior |
|---|---|
| When acquired | At the first execution of a licensed test on the machine, when the user starts it. |
| How long held | For the life of the installation. The license is not released after a test completes. |
| Licenses per machine | One per required feature. |
| When unavailable | The test fails at the step "Checking for license <license name>". Previously stored results remain viewable. |
| When returned to the pool | When Test Services is uninstalled from the machine, for example to retire a server. |
Installing licenses
Licenses are installed from the Licenses option on the Administration tab of the Control Panel. A licensed test runs only after its license is installed. When the number of licenses is insufficient, more are available from Agilent support. See Manage licenses for the installation steps.
Table: License availability by product
| Product | License availability |
|---|---|
| OpenLab CDS Workstation Plus | All applicable licenses are included. No separate purchase is required. |
| Other OpenLab CDS products | Licenses are purchased and installed separately. |
The OpenLab CDS 60-day startup license does not enable licensed Test Services tests. The licensed tests run only with the specific QlaSecurity and QlaCDSWorkflow licenses purchased and installed.
