Install and manage licenses
This page shows you how to install Test Services licenses and manage how they are used. Some Test Services tests run without a license, while others need a license to run. You install licenses in the Control Panel, the same way you install other OpenLab CDS licenses. This page is for the administrator who manages licenses for a site.
You do not need a license to log in, to run the OpenLab Software Installation Verification Test (SVT), System Report, or Connectivity Test, or to view results from earlier test runs. You need a license to run these tests:
- OpenLab Security Test and OpenLab Storage System Test. Both use the
QlaSecuritylicense. OneQlaSecuritylicense covers both tests. - Workflow Test. Uses the
QlaCDSWorkflowlicense.
For the full license reference, see Licensing. For the model behind license acquisition, see About licensing.
Prerequisites
- You must have administrator rights in the Control Panel to install licenses.
- You need the Test Services license file for the licensed tests you want to run.
- Each machine that runs a licensed test must have one license available to it.
All applicable Test Services licenses are included with OpenLab CDS Workstation Plus. For all other OpenLab CDS products, you purchase and install Test Services licenses separately. The OpenLab CDS 60-day startup license does not enable the licensed Test Services tests.
Install a license
You install Test Services licenses from the Control Panel before you run a licensed test.
-
Open the Control Panel.
-
Navigate to Administration > Licenses.
-
Add your Test Services license file.
The new license becomes available to the licensed tests on machines that can reach the license server.
-
If you do not have enough licenses for the machines that run licensed tests, contact Agilent support to obtain more.
Plan how many licenses you need
A machine acquires a license the first time it runs a licensed test and holds it until you remove Test Services, so plan for one license per machine rather than per concurrent run. Order enough licenses for every machine that needs licensed tests. For how acquisition works, see About licensing.
When a license is not available
If no license is available when a licensed test runs, the test stops early so that you know to add a license.
The test fails at the Checking for license step and reports the missing license by name. The test result is recorded as not passed, but your earlier Test Services results stay viewable. To resolve the failure, install or free a license, then run the test again. See Install a license.
Return a license when you retire a machine
A license stays with a machine until you remove Test Services from it. Returning the license keeps it available for other machines.
To return a machine's license to the pool, uninstall Test Services on that machine. The license then becomes available for another machine to acquire.
