Install a Test Services plug-in

This page shows you how to install the plug-ins that supply Test Services tests and how to confirm that they loaded. A plug-in adds one or more verification tests to the Test Services home page. Most plug-ins are installed for you when you install OpenLab CDS, so this task is mainly about confirming the result. This page is for the administrator who installs or upgrades OpenLab CDS.

The Test Services framework groups plug-ins two ways:

  • Bundled plug-ins. The Security Test, the OpenLab Software Installation Verification Test (SVT), the System Report, and the OpenLab Storage System Test are installed automatically with the Test Services framework.
  • CDS plug-in. The Workflow Test and the Connectivity Test come from the Test Services CDS plug-in, which the OpenLab CDS installer installs on machines that have OpenLab CDS.

For what each test does, see The plug-in framework and Available tests.

Prerequisites

  • You must have administrator rights on the machine, including the right to install software and manage Windows services.
  • The Test Services framework must already be installed on the machine. See Install Test Services.
  • The plug-in you are about to install or remove must have no test running on it. Installation and removal restart the Agilent Test Services service.
note

The Test Services CDS plug-in is installed and upgraded by the OpenLab CDS installer, after the Test Services framework. You do not run a separate plug-in installer in a supported deployment.

Install the CDS plug-in with OpenLab CDS

The OpenLab CDS installer adds the Test Services CDS plug-in wherever OpenLab CDS is installed. Select Test Services during the OpenLab CDS installation so that the plug-in is installed.

  1. Start the OpenLab CDS installer with administrator rights.

  2. Make sure that Test Services is selected among the optional components.

  3. Complete the OpenLab CDS installation.

The installer installs the framework first, then the CDS plug-in, and restarts the Agilent Test Services service. The Workflow and Connectivity tests become available on machines that support them.

  4. Restart the machine if the installer prompts you to do so.

Confirm that the plug-ins loaded

The test list on the home page is the quickest way to confirm that the plug-ins loaded.

  1. Log in to Test Services. See Log in to Test Services.

  2. Review the test list on the home page.

Each installed plug-in contributes its tests to the list. A test that is installed but unavailable on this machine appears with the reason it is disabled.

  3. If a test that you expect is missing, see Resolve a missing or empty test list.

Resolve a missing or empty test list

Test Services loads all plug-ins together. If one plug-in cannot load, the home page shows an empty test list rather than a partial one.

The most common causes are a version mismatch between the framework and the CDS plug-in, or a CDS plug-in that did not install. The framework and the CDS plug-in must be at the same version.

  1. Confirm that the framework and the CDS plug-in installed by checking that the OpenLab CDS installation completed without errors.
  2. Confirm that the Agilent Test Services service is running. See Confirm the installed services.
  3. Restart the Agilent Test Services service, then log in again and recheck the test list.
  4. If the list is still empty, contact Agilent support with the Test Services logs. See View the Test Services logs.
Caution

Do not remove a plug-in while a test is running on it. Removal fails while a test is in progress and can leave the test in an inconsistent state. Wait for the test to finish first.
